Rev. Tom Latimer, Senior Minister

Tom Latimer was appointed to serve as senior pastor in June, 2007.  Tom and Jennie have one child, Powell who is a rising sophomore at UNC-CH.  They also share their home with Reilly, an Irish Terrier and Toby, an Airedale.  Tom was born and raised in High Point, NC. He earned an undergraduate degree from Duke in 1980 and graduated from Duke Divinity School in 1983.  Tom has served various appointments in the WNC Conference, most recently Myers Memorial in Gastonia.  Tom’s hobbies include golf (playing and watching), jogging, Duke basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals.

 

 

 

 

Rev. Maria Edmonds, Associate Minister for Pastoral Care and Outreach

Originally from Seagrove, NC, Maria is an ordained elder in the Western NC Conference.  Her degrees include a B.S. from WCU in Brain Development and a Masters from Duke University.   She enjoys painting, creative writing, reading, word and jigsaw puzzles, music, movies and basketball.  The quote she lives by… “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny compared to what lies within us. “ – Emerson

 

 

Amanda Thomas, Associate Minister for Christian Education

Amanda is originally from Hendersonville, NC.  She received her Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Information Studies from the University of Kentucky in 2002.  Throughout college and seminary, Amanda has served as a Youth Director, Christian Education Intern, Children's Minister, and Student Associate Pastor.  In May 2005, Amanda received her Masters of Divinity from Duke Divinity School.  She is currently in the candidacy process for ordination in the United Methodist Church. Amanda has a strong passion and calling for youth ministry. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to the movies, traveling, cooking, and anything to do with the Kentucky Wildcats!

 

 

 

Kelly McDill, Director of Children's Ministries

Kelly has been the director of children's ministry since May of 2002. She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in elementary education and interdisciplinary studies. She and her husband Howard have lived in Asheville with their three children Kendall, Belk and Marshall since 2000.

 

 

Dr. Joel F. Reed, Director of Music

Dr. Joel F. Reed has been Director of Music since 1996. He is also Director of Choral Activities at Mars Hill College. He is married to Ginger Eddleman Reed; they have two daughters, four grandchildren and three dogs. Joel, Ginger and the dogs reside in Mars Hill; they enjoy gardening, golf and travel. 

 

Patty I. Higgins, Organist

Patty has served as our organist since August, 1996. Music is her hobby. She is a graduate of UNC-Asheville with a degree in psychology and elementary education and taught in the Buncombe County school system for 30 years. She lives in Weaverville with her husband, Wayne, and their two dogs, Shadow and Boots, and cat, Kat.

 

 

  Kim Moree, Administrative and Financial Secretary

Kim Moree was born in Chicago, raised in Green Bay, WI, and graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. She met her husband, Kevin, in South Florida 22 years ago, and they now live in Asheville with  their 2 teenage daughters, Carly and Kristen.  Carly is currently attending college and Kristen is a junior at TC Roberson High School.  Kim enjoys jogging, hiking, reading and traveling and loves the natural beauty of the outdoors in WNC.

 

 

 

Tracey Owens, Administrative Assistant

Tracey was born and raised in Guilford County, NC.  She received her degree from UNC-G in Business Administration.  She has worked for several United Methodist churches over the past 20 years in NC and Georgia.  Tracey currently lives in Arden with her husband, Warren, and son, Samuel.  Warren is the pastor at Avery's Creek UMC.
