MOTHER’S DAY OFFERING FOR GIVENS ESTATES

The Mother’s Day Offering for Givens Estates will be taken this Sunday, May 11th.  Givens

Estates is a community blessed with people from all economic levels, all of them sharing life together and enjoying their diversity.  However, for nearly one in six Givens residents, the joys of retirement are diminished when their limited income is not sufficient for today’s increasing cost of living.  The choices are difficult, and the fears and struggles are very real. As ministry partners in the United Methodist Conference, we can help make a big difference in the lives of these residents by supporting the Mother’s Day Offering.  Every penny given is used strictly for resident assistance, lifting burdens and enabling these special people to continue their life journey with confidence, security and hope. Please use the envelope provided inside your bulletin on Sunday, and make your check payable to:  Givens Estates.

UMW NEWS

Biltmore UMW will collect UMCOR Health Kits during the month of May.  Health Kits provide basic necessities to people forced to leave home because of conflict or natural disaster.  They are also used as learning tools in personal hygiene, literacy, nutrition and cooking classes.  These kits can be assembled for about $12 per kit.  If you would like to participate, please pick up instructions for assembling a kit from the table in the commons area.  A depository will be provided at the church.  Thank you for ministering to suffering people in our world.

Thank you for your generous collection of Campbell’s labels.  They filled up a big envelope that has just gone off to McCurdy School in Espanola, NM.  Keep filling the box in the

Communications Center to help our schools stretch their budgets with free goodies.  They thank you!

LIGHTSHARE

LightShare is co-sponsoring the Second Annual Shiloh Spelling Bee with Asheville City Parks and Recreation.  The Spelling Bee will take place on Saturday, May 24th from 2—5 pm at the Shiloh Rec Center on Shiloh Road.  This is our last event of the school year and will also serve as a graduation for children before summer begins.  We are looking for volunteers to:

1. Study/play games with children in preparation for the Spelling Bee any weekday between 4—5 pm for 30 minutes (Cameron is there most Tuesdays and every Thursday);

2. Assist LightShare on the day of the event with meal preparation/serving and registration.  Please call (712-2229) or email Cameron(Cameron@ightshare.net) if you can help.

Light Share will also be sponsoring a cultural arts program in the Shiloh Summer Camp this

summer.  We are looking for volunteers to assist with art activities—times/days to be

BILTMART FOOD PANTRY

During the month of May, please bring canned soup, stews and chili for our Biltmart Food Pantry. If possible, please bring pop-top cans.  Our pantry stocks canned goods for the needy in our community.
