Every week, the Adult choir performs an anthem or showcases the talents of one of our Mars Hill College Music Scholarship students. This week’s anthem is By Faith We Journey, by Don E. Saliers.
When summoned by the living God, we come from ev’ry race. Call forth and claim our heritage: bright gifts and lives embrace. A river flows from then to now, hope streams from sea to sea. By faith we journey, moving toward God’s city yet to be. Our hearts are full, our memories deep with those now gone before, who urge us to fresh faithfulness of heart and mind and soul, our God to love and serve and praise, in all our future’s length. By faith we journey, moving on, in trust that gathers strength. The suffering world will not give ease to those baptized in Christ. For he our suff’rings underwent to give us all new life. The cross he bore, death’s sting he knew, to wake us from the lie; by faith we journey, moving on in love that does not die. The cross and empty tomb still stand as myst’ry and as power. To all, with fear and trembling graced, who come to each new hour. Of here and now where human need still cries in anguished tears, by faith we journey, moving on, in hope-transforming years. And when at last God’s love is known in ev’ry human heart and justice flows, a mighty stream, through this world’s meanest part, we’ll still be called to serve and praise God’s gracious Word of life. By grace we’ll journey, moving on from faith to glorious sight!
